Amy Rose Moore was born and raised in the woods somewhere in the Sierra Cascade mountains of Northern California. She has had many 'animal friends,' real and imaginary. Some of them appear in her illustrations. She currently lives and works in San Francisco, California.
Amy works in a variety of water-based media, including watercolor, gouache, ink & acrylics. Her favorite surface is tea-toned paper and I favor the tiniest of teeny-tiny paintbrushes.
artist statement: I suppose I am largely influenced by the vast forests and mountains of my childhood. There, where woodland creatures vastly outnumber human creatures, one's connection with the world is felt much differently than it is here, in the city.
The portraits and personalities that take shape under my pen and paintbrush evoke (in me, at least) a sense of nostalgia, not just of my youth, but of a commonality-- of universally shared emotional spaces and fondly remembered narratives.
I would like to make my work accessible to all who connect with and enjoy it, so my goal is to offer it in a number of different formats, including prints and greeting cards.
View Amy's work at Rare Bird July - September 2016, and meet the artist at our opening reception, Thursday, July 21st, 6-9pm.
