DIY Ottoman: Upholstery Workshop
Custom make your own ottoman from scratch and take it home with you at the end of class! Learn from the owner of Curio Furniture Redesign, upholsterer and interior stylist, Brittany Kramer. In this workshop, you will learn how to use upholstery tools including a hand stapler, an electric stapler, and an air compressor. You will also learn some upholstery techniques using a basic sewing stitch and how to make piping with a sewing machine, plus functions of burlap, foam, batting and how to measure and cut fabric.
The best part of custom making your own ottoman is choosing the fabric! All other materials will be provided to create the ottoman except for the fabric. We always suggest our local shops, Piedmont Fabrics & Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics.
Choosing your fabric:
- 2.5 yards of upholstery or cotton fabric, (no nylon blends or fabric with any stretch)
- If you want the fabric to be different on the side and top you will need one 3/4 yard of fabric for the top and a different piece 1.5 yards for the bottom
- Sewing machine if you have one, with a piping foot if you have one
- Sack lunch for your hungry belly (it's a long class)
