Dear Community,

Like many small businesses, Rare Bird is closed due to the Covid19 outbreak. There are many expenses to maintain even when our doors are closed. Small businesses like mine are endangered and we need your support now more than ever.

Rare Bird is so much more than a gift shop. We are so much more than an art studio. We create a sacred container for healing to happen through creative expression and community. Shopping or making at Rare Bird means you are supporting independent artists, local makers and teachers; it means you are helping an artist & woman owned business thrive; it means you are part of a community who does business with intention, with love and with great respect and appreciation for our dear mama earth and all of you!

Rare Bird is deeply connected to our Oakland community and after 9+ years we like to think we contribute to the identity of our Piedmont Avenue neighborhood. We build personal relationships with our customers, knowing many of them by name.  For almost a decade our shop has been a sales platform for 100's of artists, both local and nation wide. Our creativity and wellness workshops provide work for local arts educators and wellness practitioners. Our team building workshops have brought creative reprieve to dozens of Bay Area businesses. We support Bay Area schools and organizations, donating thousands of dollars in product and classes to auctions each year.

For the first time ever, we are asking for your support through donations. We want to continue this symbiotic relationship with our community of appreciation, love and support and for our brick & mortar shop to still be here when it's safe to reopen.

Please, if you can, support us with a donation.  If you can't support us monetarily, perhaps you can share our website and offerings with a friend.

Wishing you and your loved ones good health and many blessings.

In gratitude and love,
Erica Skone-Rees & team Rare Bird
