Have you always wanted to sew your own clothing but didn't know where to start? 
In this workshop Maria Janeff will guide you through sewing a box top shirt. They are perfect for beginners & for the seasoned sewist. A box top is easy to sew and will become your favorite go-to tee! In this workshop you will learn how to lay out your pattern on your fabric, cut your top out, and stitch it all up using bias facing where necessary! You get to customize your design by choosing your pattern and fabric. 
Machines provided, though you are welcome to bring your own. 

Suggested Supply List

  1. Choose your pattern:
    The Bess Top
    Shirt No 1
    Lou Box Top
  2. Fabric requirements: 
    Find your size on the back of the pattern and fabric yardage to match.

    The patterns are best suited to mid to light weight cotton, linen, or natural fiber blend fabric (no jersey or knits)

  3. Good Sharp Scissors for fabric (if you are left handed, bring left-handed shears).
  4. Straight Pins - Dritz Quilting Pins are a good all-around pin
  5. Thread to match your fabric

We highly recommend Piedmont Fabrics on Piedmont Ave or  Stone Mountain & Daughters Fabrics and New Pieces in Berkeley for your supplies.

Maria is the owner/designer of Calliope, an Oakland based accessories and fashion brand. For as long as she can remember, Maria has loved fashion and personal style. She has an associates degree in pattern making and has worked for several designers before starting her own brand. Over the last decade, Maria has acquired a depth of knowledge about clothing, fashion, design, fabric and construction. Teaching is very rewarding for her. Maria is a patient and attentive teacher and she loves to share her knowledge and skills with students of sewing and fashion design and have fun while doing it!
