Rare Bird Oakland
It’s pretty safe to say that accessories can completely make or break an outfit.
Adding the right necklace, or earrings, headband, sunglasses, or bag can take the same outfit in so many different directions. While absolutely all of me agrees with my last two statements—I am THE WORST at actually accessorizing. I literally have probably 4 necklaces that I continuously recycle. It’s not that I don’t like them or don’t know how to wear them; I honestly just never think to buy them. This past week while shopping on Piedmont Avenue I wandered into a store called Rare Bird. The eclectic, unique jewelry they had inspired me to update my bling a little (or a lot.)
As soon as I saw these necklaces I was obsessed. I love, love, LOOOOVE the complex yet simplicity of their design. The simple geometric shapes of the pieces perfectly outline the fun bright pattern on the inside. Like most of the jewelry at Rare Bird the designer of this jewelry, Katie Evans, is native to Oakland. The patterns of all of Katie’s jewelry are inspired by the wings of butterflies and moths. I would say my personal style includes a lot of simple pieces that are made not so simple by color and/or pattern.
These stamped copper plate necklaces make the perfect everyday necklace. While I love a statement necklace sometimes I want something that lets my clothing be the center of attention. FUN FACT: The designer of these necklaces is also the owner, Erica!
These quirky little guys are a sure way to add some funk to any look. Designer Linda La Touches’ earrings and rings are screaming with Oakland pride. It’s always nice to have a little piece of home with you.
Rare Bird also offers different art classes and DIY workshops—confession I’m a total DIY junkie—multiply my love for this store times 1000. Especially after learning the adorable little terrarium was the product of one of the workshops. Sign me up!
